Everything You Need To Know For The GRB Debit Card Reissue

Genesee Regional Bank (GRB) is reissuing contactless debit cards to all business, personal, and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) cardholders The reissue will replace existing debit cards with updated versions that support secure, tap-to-pay technology. 

Customers will receive their new cards automatically by mail and can begin using them immediately upon activation. Existing PINs and card numbers will remain the same, minimizing disruption.

With just a tap, you can make purchases at thousands of retailers without swiping, inserting, or handing over your card. This tap-and-go method uses secure encryption and short-range wireless communication (NFC) to protect your information while speeding up transactions. Benefits of contactless cards include:

Contactless cards are accepted at most major retailers, restaurants, and transit systems, and can also be used for mobile wallet payments through your smartphone or smartwatch.

What to Expect

To prepare for the transition, customers should verify that the correct physical address is on file with GRB. You can verify your address in Online and Mobile banking in Settings > Profile. The address we have there is where your new card will be sent. If it is incorrect, please make any changes before Thursday, Aug. 21, before the cards go into production.

How long do I have to activate my card?

You have 90 days to activate your contactless card.

All reissued cards not activated by December will be deactivated. Once a card enters this status it cannot be reactivated and requires customers to order a replacement.

Can I still use my old card?

You have 90 days to activate your contactless card. In the meantime, yes, your existing card will continue to work.

Once you activate your contactless card, your old card will no longer work and you should dispose of it in a secure manner. Contactless cards offer a number of security and convenience benefits so we encourage customers to activate them as soon as possible.

Why did I not receive a new card?

Beginning on July 1, 2025, any cardholder who received a GRB debit card for the first time or had one reissued for any reason (lost, stolen, expiring, etc.) has already received a contactless card. Those cards will not be included as part of this reissue.

If you did not receive a new card since July 1 and have also not received your new card by Sept. 10, please reach out to us.

Why did I receive multiple debit cards?

GRB provides several types of accounts, including Personal, Business and Health Savings Accounts, each with its own debit card. Some customers may receive reissued cards for multiple accounts at once. If you need help identifying which accounts are associated with the received debit card, please contact us.

Will I receive a password in the mail separate from my card?

No, your new contactless card will be activated either by using the new card with your existing PIN at an ATM, logging into your secure online or mobile banking account and using Card Management, or by contacting GRB and answering challenge questions on your account.

Can I activate my new card online?

Yes, GRB Online and Mobile Banking users are able to activate their cards using the Card Management drop down in the main navigation menu.

Will the new card mean I have to change my PIN?

No. If you currently have an active debit card, your new contactless card will use the same PIN.

Does the contactless card work with my digital wallet?

Yes, contactless cards are designed to work with digital wallets.

Do all stores accept contactless card payments?

Not yet, but most do. Major retailers, fast food and chain restaurants, public transit, online retailers using mobile wallets, and even vending machines and kiosks with updated. terminals will accept contactless cards. You still have the option to swipe or insert your card in a chip reader if needed
