Continuing his philanthropic work for the Rochester area, GRB Chairman Phil Saunders has given a $10 million gift to the University of Rochester Medical Center’s neuromuscular program. Donating to organizations that bring jobs to the area is a priority for Saunders.

He commented, “The University of Rochester Medical Center is not just a great hospital. It’s a major academic medical center with a huge research component, seeking cures for disease, attracting dollars far beyond Rochester and bringing those funds to Rochester, building an economic base, attracting new ideas and businesses, and providing jobs for many people. Those are the types of activities I like to support.” Read more from the RBJ.

On Friday, April 8, URMC dedicated the Saunders Research Building, which will house the medical center's Clinical and Translational Science Institute. About $1.5 million of Saunders' gift will be used for translational research, which works to quickly apply scientific discoveries to human needs.  Read coverage from the Democrat & Chronicle.
